What will happen to media/journalism in the coming years? Robin Sloan and Matt Thompson put together this great presentation about what may happen in the coming decade.
After watching I think about some of the echo chamber issues that exist with blogging and media sites today. What will happen in this future if all your news is based upon reccomendations of your friends?
Update: I am hosting a mirror of the presentation on my server.

Josh: I saw this presentation in May at Poynter. Robin and Matt showed it to 30-35 people representing online news sites -- most from old-line media companies, with the exception of a guy from Yahoo. After the presentation, we broke into small groups and tried to decide what Traditional Media could do to counter Googlezon. Frankly, most of our strategies were lame. Robin and Matt constructed a pretty air-tight case. About the best idea my group came up with was to present credible, name-brand journalism alongside the blogosphere and let our readers take what they want from both.
It's not unlike what happens at memeorandum.com, which links the most-discussed stories from traditional media with blog excerpts prompted by these reports. This is from their self-description: "memeorandum presents an automated hourly synopsis of the latest online news and opinion, combining weblog commentary with traditional news reports."
Maybe I ought to start presenting rss feeds from local blogs...
