Yesterday's USAToday featured the LiveSTRONG campaign in one of their infographics. The graphic (shown below) details that over 40 million bands have been sold worldwide and that there are only 10 million American with cancer.

I am not sure if USAToday was trying to say that the bands are a fad since there have been more sold than there are Americans with cancer. I will agree that there are a few people wearing the bands more for a fashion statement then a true support for the casue. The worst offenders are those wearing a LiveSTRONG band and smoking.
In a bit of defense (if needed) though I will breakdown USAToday's numbers. The graphic states the total sales are worldwide, but they only list American cancer cases. It's very safe to assume that there are many more cancer victims worldwide. Also the bands are often worn as a sign of support for friends and family members with cancer. So take that 10 million Americans and figure that the majority of them have two parents, that's a possible 30 million people. Factor in children and friends and you can quickly hit 40 million, if not more.
It is approaching one year since I put on my LiveSTRONG band and have not taken it off.
