Something Hugh McLeod wrote got me thinking. Hugh said:
This got me thinking to a recent conversation I had with the Chief Marketing Officer of probably the most respected and "creative" ad agency on the planet. He told me:Our best ideas no longer come from the copywriters. They're coming from the techies.
I think this is becuase 'techies' are more hands-on with products and situations. Perhaps this puts them more in-tune with people. Yes, techies can be a bit elitist and nerdy, remember Nick Burns 'Your Company's Computer Guy' from Saturday Night Live. But think about your company, who other than the in-the-field tech support staff has more interaction with a large portion of your staff?
Now think about how many times the marketing team floats an idea that the rank-and-file look at and say, "who came up with this? do they have any clue what goes on out here?"
