Wayne Hulbert writes about comparing blogging to agriculture. The inspiration for his post is a two part series found on Pro Blogger about agriculture and blogs. Wayne says:
I have long believed that agriculture and farming were ideal industries to add a blog component to their operations as well. A blog would be particularly powerful for market gardeners, organic farmers, purebred livestock breeders, pedigreed seed growers, and any producer who markets a product directly to other farmers or consumers. The farming and blogging analogy is the type of leap that aids in creative thinking.
Finding two seemingly unrelated items or industries and discovering the parallels leads to many new insights and ideas, that benefit those who take the time to consider them.
For me this is an interesting coincidence. Later today I am heading to the University of Florida to speak at the DigitalPR conference on Friday. UF is where I went to school, specifically the College of Agriculture and Life Science (CALS).
Agriculture? You say! Yes, my major in school was microbiology. At UF you could take 'micro' either in the College of Agriculture or the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS). If you took it via CLAS you were required to take a foreign language, which I did not want to do. So it was the College of Agriculture for me. What did I do with my micro skills? Nothing, I started a web design firm right out of school. (I should have majored in graphic design at college, but that is a whole other story)
Now 10 years later this "Ag-Boy" (and I use the term very loosely) works with businesses and PR firms to utilize blogs. How is that for a Blogging/Agriculture connection?
