Publix has been celebrating their 75th anniversary for a few months now, but today is the actual 75th anniversary date. On September 6, 1930 George Jenkins opened the first Publix in Winter Haven, Florida.
In honor of the date there was a small event held this morning at the original Winter Haven location. The exterior of the store was remade to look like it did in 1930. (The current tenant in the location is Scores Sports Bar - Plazes Link).

You can review Publix's official history for their complete story or read the article from today's Ledger.

Congrats to Publix. I'm pretty critical when it comes to the grocery business and service in stores, and I'm quite happy to say I only shop at Publix. My family has deep connections to the grocery business in the midwest and the stores we've been a part of started in 1930 as well. Hy-Vee food stores began in a similar location on a town square 1,500 miles away from Winter Haven, but a heck of a lot closer in spirit.
