Remember the old E.F. Hutton commercials?
In the ad, a group of people sit at a crowded, noisy restaurant or something, and one stuffy guy says to another stuffy guy, "My broker is E.F. Hutton, and E.F. Hutton says ... " and the whole crowd of mostly stuffy guys falls silent, listening. The tag line: "When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen."
Which bloggers are your E.F. Hutton's? Who posts rather infrequently, but when they do it's gold? In a way they're less like bloggers and more like a traditional newspaper columnist, but they still post in a blog format. The top three that quickly come to my mind are:
- Lawrence Lessig
- Jay Rosen
- Constantin Basturea
Typically their posts are well thought out and create a good debate within the comments. Perhaps to less of a degree I can list Mark Cuban since he has a low post volume, but he does stir debate. Whether his posts are 'gold' is up for discussion, perhaps tin?
The next two are bloggers that do post frequently, but the quality is still high. I know that I will always find some good content there:
The rest? They're all great (othwerise they woulnd't be in my news reader) but the content is a mixture of substantial pieces mixed in with short bits and meta-blogging. The signal-to-noise ratio varies among the blogs I read (and I am just as guilty). Finding the good though-provoking content requires some sifting.
Who is your E.F. Hutton?

Josh: I'll create a new category for my blog called "Josh-worthy", so you'll know when I have something impressive to say. For anything posted under the other categories, read at your own risk of encountering banal insights into my life, or sycophantic linking to the blogging gods.

Eric:
Thank you :-)
We can register joshworthy.com and it will become the new yahoo!!
I guess my post does sound a bit haughty. Sorry about that.

Don't mind my jab in the ribs. I don't write my blog with the singlemindedness of some of the top bloggers, who have a clear vision and use their blog to chip away at a few major themes. I just like to throw stuff up there and see what sticks.
I know full well my approach isn't going to get me on as many must-read lists as someone who is relentless about their point of view, and I'm happy to be an also-ran. No offense taken.
Plus, I've always wanted to use the sponge-worthy thing from Seinfeld, and you presented me with the perfect opportunity!

Thanks, Josh. I have an anti-EF, that I do post comments on to bring him to reality ... hopefully.
As for my EF, GigaOm is on that list. And, well, Bloglines so I get all the PR blogs in one feed from Blogdigger.
