It's a well known fact that many bloggers love to review their stats for some ego-boosting. Often you'll see posts that say, "look what I found in my stats." Sometimes these 'discoveries' can help boost a product/blog/sites recognition, or draw unwanted attention:
Good..perhaps
- Steve Rubel finds Blogofy or CNET's newsreader
Bad..perhaps
- Stephen observes his competition
- I found the web server stats for a Florida gubernatorial candidate
This might be a unique product launch strategy. Just visit people's blogs. Don't comment, don't link, just browse.

So true.
Great new design, by the way, Josh...and nice article in the Sentinel recently!

First, love the new design and great new photo. We gotta talk about my blog and redesigns.
But, isn't just checking stats non-stop somewhat going against the grain of what blogs are for? It's not about popularity, but content - or at least that's the hope.
I know I am bad about checking my stats - it's a good week (or rare week, I guess) if I get to them once. Eh, maybe it's because I don't have a big enough ego yet. I'll work on it.

Jeremy:
I agree that blogs should be about content, but in many cases there's what 'should' be and what 'is'. All to often the 'is' is somewhat ego driven, or is that 'id'?

Totally... or new blog products too. I'm sure you'll see our robot in your referrer logs. :)
I do it all the time for my feedblog. I look at my referrers to see if someone's coming from a new aggregator.

Yay! Bad puns! But, yes, you are right. I just am too odd, I think.

It's 5 in the morning and I have no idea at all how I've ended up on this page, I've been following tangents for several hours...
Anyway, I just thought I'd point something out. If you're merely visiting blogs, as opposed to linking to them or to posting on them, surely the stats as read by the blog writer, show the ip address of your ISP, not your website.
When I look at my stats, I find that I end up visiting sites that either LINK to my site, or possibly more akin to what you're saying, REFERRERS to my site...
So it might be a little better to visit random blog sites, after being on your own site, so that your URL appears in their stats as referrers...
Hmmm.... that's such a good idea I think I might go and do it now... <8?)
