Blogs: Talking About a Moving Target

+ Posted by Josh Hallett on 02.06.06 // 09:03 AM

It seems that just yesterday I was wondering when David Sifry's next State of the Blogosphere post would show up....well look here, a new one was posted today. The numbers are still big, but the growth curve might be slowing a little bit.

The ever-changing growth stats make the blog presentations I do feel like I am talking about a moving target. A few of my slides reference the latest blog stats, it seems that before each presentation I need to update them, how many million blogs tracked? 19.7, 21.4, 22.5 or 27.2 as of this morning.

Other events in the blog-world happen quickly. Last year I spoke on a Thursday to a lunch group, the next appearance I had was a dinner group the following Tuesday. In that span of four days Yahoo announced their Podcast directory and the first glimpses of Google's blog search appeared. There are were a few other smaller announcements, but I had to update all my handouts and slides.
