Like a number of other bloggers I was contacted by Sprint and offered a Samsung A920 phone with free service for 6 months. The major focus is Sprint's new Power Vision service which offers increased data speeds that allow for services such as live TV on the phone.
I've have the phone for a few days and have enjoyed the geek-factor. As a die-hard Blackberry user I've never had a phone with a camera (or a camcorder) or any other entertainment oriented features. The live TV is definitely a conversation starter. The music download service is slick, so far I've downloaded some Depeche Mode, Joy Division, New Order, Nitzer Ebb and some other industrial tracks. Of course the music downloads are free during the trial, normally I wouldn't feel the need to pay $2.99 per song.
As a Mac user I was out of luck when it came to using the phone as a modem, but noDRM just published some instructions on how to use the phone with your Mac. I plan to try that out on my trip this weekend.
Over the next few days I also plan to document my interactions with others to determine how much WOM I'm generating for Sprint.
