Technorati Adding MySpace to the Mix

Technosailor points out that Technorati is now indexing MySpace blogs. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? As Aaron points out it will add some clutter to the results from Technorati, but hasn't there always been clutter?

Overall, I think the ability for businesses to monitor this large social network will have some benefit (aside from the Big Brother aspect). MySpace has always been somewhat nebulous to the corporate world, but they could learn a great deal from the kids.

you mean they werent before ?

icerocket has been indexing myspace and other social nets , for a while.

nice to see them trying to play catchup

Well I have been on Facebook for a while now and signed up for MySpace over Christmas. I thought it would be just as interesting but I found it a little tasteless.
It is something people my age use for a lot of reasons. As soon as I singed up for MySpace, I had more than 10 strangers writing to me. They use it to find single men or women. It is interesting to see someone's profile that you have not seen in a while to simply catch up on their life. It is not interesting, however, when men twice my age are sending me messages.
Since that was my first impression of the site, I was very surprised to see that a) there were even blogs on MySpace and b) why anyone would consider them credible or important. Maybe there are people on the site that are taking the blogging experience seriously, but I know that none of my friends on the site are.

If Technorati wants to index MySpace, then go for it. MySpace is not something that business should look to for information about trends from young people. I personally have not joined MySpace. Like Hillary said, it is somewhat distasteful. Not from personal experience, mind you, but from what I have heard and read for that matter in the papers.
For Technorati to say that these are credible blogs (and that is what they are saying by indexing them) somewhat taints their credibility as well. Call me crazy, but if I want to know about trends of young people, there has to be better ways to find out.
Facebook is somewhat more credible than MySpace. At least there is somewhat of a monitoring system in Facebook. Maybe Technorati should have looked more into the content of what these blogs are about and the time that people are putting into them before ever giving them credence for their content. Enough of my ranting about my disdain for MySpace. Technorati must know what they are doing, I am just a twenty-something college student.

I think myspace blogs should of been indexed by search engines long ago. It would show what there real thoughts are. Even friendwise.com get's there blogs indexed by search engines and they get alot more responses to there blogs with there social networking site.

Interesting to see how many "blog snobs" there are out there... Who cares what the platform is if the content is good? I had a blog years ago which I produced with Blogger. Honestly, it sucked because at that point in my life, I sucked. I now use MySpace and post blogs there. I have found a community of great writers and genuine people there who are interesting to interact with. MySpace is like the rest of the world - you attract what you are.
