Looking at different vacation spots I stumbled upon this deal from Iceland Air. For $471 per person you get airfare and hotel for two people to Reykjavik during the middle of the week. The trip can be either two or three nights. Anybody else been to Reykjavik recently?
The reason I ended up at Iceland Air is because they now fly out of Sanford Airport rather than Orlando Airport. That little switch made some news locally in Central Florida. The other reason was Om's post about Iceland's broadband saturation.
On a side note, if your Google orlando airport, Sanford Airport comes up before Orlando Airport...ha!

Josh, my husband and I flew IcelandAir last June on our honeymoon. We were flying to London but had a layover in Reykjavik. The flight in and out of Iceland was amazing. We got there at about four in the morning and it was as light out as if it was noon. (They have 24 hours of daylight in the summer) The countryside was beautiful and we got to see a glacier on our flight back to the States.
I'd definitely like to get back there some day and explore the country.

Hey J, I flew IcelandAir last June on my way to Frankfurt. We had a layover in Reykjavik about 3am and it was bright and sunny. I didn't have a chance to get outside the airport but was able to get a good aerial view of the land. Other than the city, the country side looks like the surface of mars, nothing.... It was very convienant to stop in Raykjavik becasue it is considered a gateway in entering the Europeon Union so all your passport work can be done in a much smaller airport saving time when you land at one of the big hubs in Europe. No frills, but overall a good experience.

Maybe I am dating myself here, but in the old days, all us college students would fly Icelandic Air to Europe and get the free Iceland stopover for a day or two. It is definitely worth a day or two if on the way to Europe.

Josh,
Its an amazing place and the offer isn't too bad, considering the prices for accomodation there. Take 3 nights and you won't regret it. Its easy to explore the south coast by car or a tour. I've posted many photographs in my web site. Let me know if you need help!

The midweek madness is probably the best short trip you can take- if you have an open mind, enjoy different things, you can see and do a lot in three days with a rental car, or just take the tours. Warning: it is cheap to get there but unbelievably expensive to be there! You'll get more out of it if you do some homework (history, culture, etc...) The people are reserved but pretty tolerant, almost everybody is very well educated and articulate. It isn't for everyone, and it can be quite cool and windy any time of year. Good luck! (I'm on my way back in October for the third time since 2000...)

Icelandair is the worst airline I've encountered in 30 + years of flying all over the world on almost all airlines in existance.
Don't bother taking the 'free stopover' in Iceland ... there is nothing to see - or do there - there. Plus Icelanders tend to be a snobby bunch ... they think they are on top of the earth (well...may be geographically speaking)
