Update: As of Monday morning I am still not able to order anything. I called Amazon (well they called me via their callback system) and they also saw the error and are "Working on it".
Update 2: I gave up on Amazon and ordered from another site.
I've been trying to order something on Amazon.com since 10:00 AM this morning. Each time I 'Proceed to Checkout' from my cart I receive the standard error message.
What does it say about me (and our society) that I am frustrated about this. The stuff won't ship till Tuesday so it's not going to make a difference if the order is placed now or tomorrow.

I think anytime you want to spend money and the merchant/service provider makes it hard for you to hand over the cash, it's frustrating. I had a similar off-line experience today at a Sprint store...I wanted to purchase something but they were so busy they didn't have time to sell it to me unless I waited for an appointment an hour later.

Josh,
Not a problem. Just send me the check and I'll ship you as many copies of Naked Conversations as you wish.
