One thing I consistently heard from students on my college tour this week: I want a Mac! I must have had at least two dozen students say things like:
"Is that a Mac you're using, I want one of those"Walking around campus I observed students using Mac laptops everywhere (thanks to some great wifi). I remember back at UF in 1992 I was one of a few with my PowerBook 145. The Apple machine of choice seems to be the MacBook. It's the least expensive Mac laptop but still has tons of functionality. My step-sister wants one for Christmas...we'll see what happens there."I asked my parents for a MacBook for Christmas"
"I am saving my money for a Mac"
"I told my dad to buy me a Mac, but he bought me a PC, it sucks"
For students today, their lives are digital; so apps like iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie make all the difference in the world. Sure you can get iTunes on a PC, but iPhoto and iMovie are Mac only.
So if my recent experiences are any indication, it's time to buy some Apple stock.

Josh, My daughter, a freshman at UF, has a Mac and loves it, the envy of her friends. As for you, do you still have that Powerbook 145? I have a Powerbook 190 in my closet, my first Mac laptop, and just can't bring myself to part with it. As for the stock, I remember thinking that when iMac was coming out and Jobs was back...Apple trading at $12. JC

I have seen tons of Macs at Indiana University where I am studying. Not just among the Human Computer Interaction design group also among the Computer Science Masters and PhD students.
My CS PhD friend loaned me his old G3 laptop since he wants to try and convert me from PC to Mac. I don't know if that will happen but the G3 is lighter than the Gateway notebook I have.

I'm a student and I'm going to buy a macbook too. I'm getting fed up with my current computer (a 2 year old Dell Inspiron with a battery life of about 10 minutes!) I just need something for the internet, multimedia, and to take notes on in class. A Macbook seems like a perfect and easy way to do that. Plus I think Windows and Microsoft aren't keeping up with the competition. The Zune and Vista don't seem too great while iPods have transformed society (personally I'm an iriver fan), and Tiger and Leopard are more appealing. Anyway, that's why I'm going to spend my leftover scholarship money on a Macbook in January :) mwahaha

Actually John, I don't have the PowerBook 145, but the guy I sold it to still does. He said I could have it back, I just need to coordinate a meetup to get it back.
