I have been wanting to get a new cell phone for some time now. My trusty Blackberry 7290 from Cingular is just about dead. Unfortunately it's the standard 'new device just around the corner' waiting that's been holding me up.
For the last few months it's been the Blackberry Pearl. The Pearl was released initially on T-Mobile which does me no good as a Cingular customer. The T-Mobile exclusivity on the Pearl ends shortly so Cingular should have it soon, hurray!
It looks like i am going to wait a bit longer though. The rumors of the Apple iPhone are growing stronger and stronger. Will Steve announce the long-awaited phone at MacWorld in Jan '07? I certainly hope so, but we'll see. Of course the phone might be announced in Jan 07, but then it might not be available for another few months.
I guess to guarantee the release of the iPhone I should go out and buy the Blackberry Pearl when Cingular sells it.

It would be nice to see this new phone released at MacWord in Jan. We have seen phones released in the past with the capability to download and play songs, but I think with apple behind this one then it should excel.Apple has figured out the technology to make gadgets like this work and with its support from the public already high from the ipod and consumers looking for that new product I see great a great response from the public. Some of the rumors is that it will have video conference capabilities and touch pad technology. As long as the price can stay reasonable it should do fine. I've been looking for a new phone for a few months and found a pay as you go phone for 20 dollars at Wal-Mart..can't wait to get rid of this one.

I was checking out the Pearl the other day, and it fits nicely in the hand. Just like a cell phone should. I only played with the number pad for a minute, so I didn't get a sense if it would be easy for text entry. Certainly for someone who doesn't need to key in a lot of text, this would be much better than a standard Blackberry - cheaper too.
Plus, it looks cool, so it's well positioned to hold up against the Apple cool factor.
