The Airbus A-380 made its maiden flight today. Airliners.net has a photo. There is also a great deal of discussion going on in the forum.
CNN article about the flight.
Pretty cool.
Oh yeah, I am not into the whole Boeing vs. Airbus feud. I am just a latent fan of civil aviation. When Boeing rolls out the Dreamliner I'll post about that as well.
The Airbus A380 started rolling taxi tests today. Airliners.net has the photos. The first flight is scheduled for later this month.

With no US passenger carriers buying any (UPS and FedEx are) it might be a while before I get the chance to fly on one.
Airliners.net has the most recent photos of the Airbus A380.
The first unit has all four engines and a quick coat of paint. The 'official' rollout is January 18, with the first flight tentatively set for March 31.
Update: Here's a shot with the new livery!
Can't wait till Southwest Airlines takes delivery of one of these new 737's. The plane will feature an in-flight refueling nozzle.
And oh yeah, the plane could launch Harpoon missiles from two racks under each wing, or from a weapons bay aft of the wing, which could also carry torpedoes, mines or nuclear or conventional depth bombs.
Patrick Smith of Salon's Ask The Pilot has posted his latest column which contains his review of LOST from a pilot's perspective.
As usual Patrick draws on his vast aviation knowledge. One tid-bit, the airline 'Oceanic' is often used in TV and movies. Although LOST's Oceanic plane is a L-1011, here is an Oceanic 747 from Executive Decision. Remind me not to fly Oceanic.
Airliners.net has some new pictures of the Airbus A-380.
Can't wait to see it in person.
Update: Here's an excellent shot in the new livery!
The new category I created 'Ask the Passenger' is an homage of sorts to Patrick Smith's column on Salon, Ask the Pilot. I have enjoyed reading his weekly Q&A for a few years now and snapped up his book when it first came out.
His most recent column talks about USA Today's new column 'Ask the Captain.' I am not linking to the USA Today column since it's a rip-off of Patrick's work, and his column is better :-)
I travel quite a bit so I will post some tid-bits here and there under this category.
Flew on Ted this past weekend Orlando to Dulles. In fact it was on this plane. Each time the flight attendant would speak they would accidently say United instead of Ted. I talked to one of the crew and she said they switch between carriers and it does get confusing. Looks like even our plane had an identity crisis. The Airbus A-320 Reg-N473UA used to fly in United livery.
The latest 'grand idea' from Richard Branson and his Virgin empire is to start up a commercial space flight company. Virgin Galactic is a technology licensing deal with Mojave Aerospace Ventures - the US company behind SpaceShipOne. SpaceShipOne is tabbed to be the most likely winner of the X Prize.

One of my new favorite columns on the web is 'Ask the Pilot' over at Salon. It's written by a pilot of course, and he offers some uncanny insight into the world or commercial aviation. In a recent column he discussed the logos and liverys of some well known, and some less well known airlines. The article is full of links to photography of the planes discussed. I don't always agree with his opinions, I am especially not a big fan of the Air India livery.
All the plane photos are on a web site called Airliners.net, which if you find airplanes even remotely interesting, you will waste a bit of time at. This is there most popular photo on the site, and you can see why.
